About SCFCU

History of the Steuben Citizens Federal Credit Union

The National Credit Union Association (NCUA) chartered our credit union originally as the VAC Employees Federal Credit Union on June 27, 1949 for the employees of the Veterans Administration Center, employees of the credit union, members of their immediate family and organizations of such persons.

The credit union was located in an office located in building 32 at the VA Medical Center, Bath, New York. We initially opened with eight members. Each member held one share at a value of $5.00 each. The credit union was up and running with a total of $40.00 in assets!

For almost thirty years membership was available for only the initial charter. The only services available to our members were basic share accounts and share pledge loans. Our charter then expanded to extended family members and in 1978 Steuben County employees were added to our field of membership. We also expanded our space and moved to building 18 at the VAMC.

Today we have grown substantially up to 4,658 members with over 9,563 accounts. Our services have grown to include share draft checking accounts, IRAs, time-share deposits, mortgages, home equity loans, vehicle loans, and so much more! We have moved to our new location at 2 Wilson Ave, Bath and we're still going strong and continuing to expand our services to meet your financial needs.

As of July 13, 2018 our charter has been expanded and we are pleased to announce we are now a community charter credit union! That entails anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Steuben County is eligible to join us along with businesses and other legal entities located in Steuben County.
